La morte costituisce un problema decisivo per qualsiasi mentalità, ma in particolare per quella greca che è portata ad indagare i problemi, per così dire, di senso ultimo, dell'uomo e del mondo, più che a descrivere fenomeni. Ed è un fatto che tocca tragicamente tutti e che a tutti incute quel timore, che proviene da un'impossibilità di attingerne fino in fondo la spiegazione.
