La relazione tra medici e pazienti diventa sempre più asettica. Il paziente richiede al medico la realizzazione piena dei propri desideri; il sanitario prova a realizzarli e contribuisce ad incrementare il processo di spersonalizzazione della medicina. Il progresso tecnico-scientifico incide su questo processo di disumanizzazione e, in questo cointesto, fa capolino il problema della chirurgia estetica: la bellezza diventa un valore. Uomini e donne ricorrono alla chirurgia al fine di conformarsi alle regole che sono propinate dai mass-media. La chirurgia estetica viene delegittimata e crea le basi per la nascita di un nuovo, strano diritto, come quello "ad essere belli". Perchè la società ambisce ad ottenere il riconoscimento di tale pericoloso diritto? E' forse plausibile la sua introduzione all'interno del nostro sistema? Come può intervenire il diritto al fine di frenare queste assurde richieste?

The relationship between doctors and their patients becomes increasingly aseptic. The patient asks the doctor the full realization of his/her desires; the doctor tries to realize his/her request and contributes to the dehumanization of medicine. The technical progress affects this process of desecration of medicine. In this context, it is relevant to the field of cosmetic surgery: beauty becomes a value. Men and women are turning to surgery to conform to the rules dictated by the media. Cosmetic surgery is de-legitimized and raises the need for new, unimaginable rights, such as the right to be beautiful. Why does society hope for this new dangerous right? Is its insertion in our legal system perhaps theoretically plausible? How should the law intervene to put a stop to such dangerous requests?
