The article intends to offer a contribution to the bioethical debate regarding hydronutrition of patients in Persistent Vegetative State (PVS). First, the clinical condition of the Vegetative State – nowadays called even Unresponsive Wakefulness Syndrome (UWS) – will be exposed, and then the value of human life will be investigated. Subsequently, it advances the bioethical discernment through a three-step method that assesses clinical appropriateness and the patient’s subjective elements, in order to develop an integrated ethical evaluation and derive corresponding operative decisions.
