Nostalgia is a feeling deeply intertwined with the finiteness of human existence, showing our need for care and listening in an often arid world. This article reflects on nostalgia as a meaningful and all-encompassing human experience that, while bringing with it a certain amount of pain, proves to be fundamental in restoring familiarity to what seems distant and reawakening our lived experience. Nostalgia is an essential need that helps us remove the ‘rust’ of time while simultaneously opening us to a new future. From this perspective, nostalgia is a valuable interrogation of meaning, a true therapeutic resource that lends itself to potential applications in the contexts of biomedical ethics, curative practice, and philosophical counseling.
