The faculty of medicine in the physician's overall education

Authors

The faculty of medicine is in the centre of a debate whose postulates, who are often antithetical and external to medical science, are reflecting on the educational projects. The epistemological speculation seems to have induced conceptual fractures within the medical biological science, postulating a distinction between various kinds of medicine, each of which requires different educational schemes. In this way terms regarding the natural complexity of medicine and the various phases and conditions of acting as a physician, are presented as structural contrapositions of the medical biological science. It seems that for an overall education, which is both technical and ethical, it is necessary to recover the unity of knowledge and of medicine, both as a science and as a practice, on the basis of an overall conception of the human person. The lecturer, who is part of a real "communitas professorum" should have a unitary vision of medicine and therefore of an overall educational project. The faculty of medicine has to go back to being the natural place for a truly "university" reflection on the human person and on the acquisitions of scientific research.
