The article addresses the ethical issues of aesthetic medicine, beginning with a definition of the discipline that clarifies its scope and explicitly highlights the blurred boundary between cure and enhancement/improvement in the context of the concept of health, understood as encompassing full physical, mental, and social well-being. The article analyzes the ethical theories in this context, with particular attention to the principle of proportionality and disproportionality of risks and benefits, also in light of current legislation (with particular reference to Law 219/2017) and the deontological code. Particular attention is paid to aesthetic interventions on minors, with reference to parental consent and the participation of minors in choices. The aspects of training and social information are also addressed critically. A final decalogue is drawn up in order to offer indications for an ethical approach to aesthetic medicine.
