The prospect of being able to provide for the moral improvement by drugs to individuals has been taken seriously in some papers from the beginning of 2000 and recently in an essay by Persson and Savulescu. For these two authors, the moral bioenhancement is a necessity dictated by the delicate situation in which humanity finds itself: a material progress that led to the invention of potentially destructive technologies and alteration of our ecosystem with consequences difficult to calculate it is not accompanied by a similar moral progress to ensure the good use of these techniques. The authors which thesis are discussed therefore propose to put at the service of a moral improvement assumption that must ensure a good use of the same technological capacity which is actually the element that puts us in danger. After rebuilding the debate began well before the publication of this occurred in 2012, the article focuses on the discussion of Persson and Savulescu's thesis for which the possibility of an moral bioenhancement (MBE) is summed up in increasing empathy and in elimination of unjustified moral prejudices through the proper administration of SSRIs and oxytocin. This form of enhancement has encountered fundamental criticism that questioned not only the moral legitimacy but also its own effectiveness. One wondered indeed what it means theoretically proceed to an improvement of individual morality and whether this improvement is actually capable of being translated into conduct of which it is possible to verify the positivity. Studies of the effects of these two molecules have not given incontrovertible results on their effectiveness. On the other hand it was observed that considered as an improvement of individual morality, produced by drugs behaviors, does not seem consistent with the notion of morality. Finally it is shown that the increase of empathy does not automatically produce an improvement in the moral situation, and material, in fact it can often lead to results opposite to those sought.
