The Author, exploring the momentous changes affecting the current macro- economic international context, discusses the Italian disability- and no self-sufficiency policies and analyzes its several insufficiencies: the lack of a coherent and uniform Long-term Care (LTC) model, causing large differences and social inequalities between northern and southern Italy; its cash-oriented nature; the "familistic" delegation of welfare and health care systems, with consequent weakness of public services supporting home cares of no selfsufficient patients. To conclude, the Author proposes some structural adjustments to revision Long-term Care policies, in a perspective of solidarity: that means reciprocal recognition between fellow human beings, strong support to fragility and responsible openness to future generations' interests.
