Il francese esprime questo dato antropologico col verbo tomber attribuito alla malattia. Il malato è inoltre colui che cade dalla posizione verticale a quella orizzontale, e questo gli causa un rovesciamento di prospettive e di punti di riferimento (proprio come avviene, a livello morale, per la caduta dovuta al peccato): cambia il rapporto alto-basso, da- vanti-dietro, ecc.
