The article proposes a critical reading of the conceptual presuppositions of Transhumanism, a cultural, intellectual and scientific movement that claim the moral duty to improve physical and cognitive abilities of the human species. This movement, indeed, wants to project humans again to avoid the unavoidable aging process and the limits of human (and artificial) intelligence, through the use of future technologies. After having gone along the historical stages that led to the rising of transhumanist movement again, also explaining the programmatic lines and the concrete ways through which the passing from human to post-human will be realized, the Author proposes a wide critical reflection on the theoretical foundations of Transhumanism. In particular, she underlines the limits of the conceptual presuppositions of Transhumanism: a reductive anthropology, an uncritical attitude towards the use of technology, and an ideological refusal of metaphysics that led transhumanists to formulate a misunderstanding of the concepts of person and dignity.
