To understand the itineraries of medical thought, to show the theoretical nodes where scientific explanation intersects with pragmatic intention and evaluative inference, to indicate the directions of influence that link the culture of an era with its therapeutic strategies, in short, to try to unravel the complexity of an act that is supposed to be liberating, all this should attempt a metamedic reconnaissance.
